Preparing your home for a spring sale

Preparing your home for a spring sale

Spring is often associated with moving, but now is the time to start preparing your home if you want to sell a house fast this coming springtime.

Sure, you can wait until the weather starts turning warmer if you just want to put your property on the market and hope for the best. However, clever sellers know there’s more to be made with a bit of forethought than simply selling a house ‘as is’ once spring is already here.

So, if you are wondering how to sell your home fast this springtime, here are some hints and tips.

1. Do your spring cleaning now

If you are planning to sell your property before the summer, now is the time to start getting it ready for sale...and that includes spring cleaning.

Not only will cleaning and decluttering your home make the move itself easier, it will also help in other ways too.

Obviously, clean homes sell faster. While a buyer knows that all your clutter and mess will be gone when they move in, subconsciously they may be put off if your home needs a thorough clean. So, get the cleaning out of the way now if you want to sell your house quickly once it hits the market.

2. Do your own inspection

The ideal time to do a top-to-tail home inspection is while you are doing your deep clean, so combine the two tasks into one to save time. Look out for those jobs and repairs that need doing and make a list of them as you go. And follow through afterwards to make sure you get each job done. We all know how quickly time passes, and spring will be here before you know it!

Minor jobs that you can handle yourself should be done as quickly as possible, but anything more major that needs attention may need the services of a qualified tradesman, so get those jobs booked in straight away.

3. Make your home inviting

First impressions count; we all know that, so use that to your advantage when trying to sell property fast. Give the front yard a makeover, paint your window frames and front door to spruce things up. You could even change the furniture if you really want to impress prospective buyers.

At the very least, the front of your property needs to be clean and tidy, so make this job part of your spring clean too. Wash your windows, clean the deck, and tidy up those flowerbeds. Make your home as welcoming as you possibly can. This will give you the edge over similar properties that haven’t received the same levels of TLC.

4. Brighten up dark areas

If you have a room that lacks natural light or a part of your home that feels dingy, try and rectify these problems before you place your home on the market.

Cleaning and decluttering will help but try other ways to make the most of what little natural light there may be; maybe a change of colour scheme, the addition of mirrors, and even simply rearranging furniture can all help bring more light into those spaces.

5. Select the right realtor

Having the right realtor on your side is vital if you want to get the right price and sell your home quickly. A knowledgeable, experienced and qualified realtor can help you sell your property fast and with the minimum amount of fuss and hassle.
